I want to design a virtual image of the Buccaneer 18 sailboat. I've tried downloading some softwares that require me to use xyz coordinates, but I'd rather use something more simple. Maybe something with prefab images that I can just move around and adjust. Something similar to a simple house design software, but instead for sailboats.

You can see a 2D drawing of the boat at http://www.homegrowntomato.net/buccaneer18/id30.html

Would anyone be able to help me design this or maybe give me some advice on how this could be easily done. Thanks

NOP, nothing easy like that yet. 3D, XYZ, it's all you going to see, I'm guessing that you have no experience with any 3D software at all, only floorplan or punch software home designer or something like that, those are easy because they are boxes or well defined geometries (circles, rectangles, etc..), so, if you really need to do it just for the kick of it and not use this drawing for actual building, BLENDER is for free and is great to create renders or virtual images, is not so friendly use but is free, another is gmax is free and is like 3Dstudio (same makers) just that is for gaming industry but you can do very incredible images with textures.

Rhino has a education price, and this one will be all you need if this is the size of boat you want to play with, you can create the boat here and render with really nice results.

but depends at the end what you really want to do

just virtual image? get GMAX and Blender and try those, even Gmax has Nurbs.

Virtual image and maybe go little bit further into actually build the boat, then get rhino education version, not a student?, then is too expensive, go back to GMAX and Blender.

like you see it's 3D XYZ all over, you need to expend sometime into this, but once you start is very easy.

I hope this help, i'll be glad to help
