    Dear friends,
I am writing in this post to ask, why we need the windage groups in maxsurf modeler. Only, is it necessary for criteria stability? Or maxsurf modeler is useful to calculate the resistance, as well...
Other question: in the manual of maxsurf modeler, appear this expression: Ftotal = Fdrag*(1.0 - Fshield)*Fuser.
I suppose that Fdrag = Cdrag×0.5×wind density × v2 × surface. But, how to know the value of Fshield and Fuser?
    Thanks.

The windage area groups are there for more accurate and easier calculation of wind heeling moments in the Stability module. Once you have set them up in Modeler they will be available in Stability. So yes these are a part of the stability criteria. The calculation of additional drag (proportional to frontal area and v^2 as you note) in the Resistance module is a separate calculation.
