    If you want to do a 'design effort/exercise' then I might suggest a whole new subject thread devoted to that effort, and you can always link back to this thread that is about primarily OXE and its belt drive technology.

    Conversion of Outboard to Inboard Deisel

    I converted an Intrepid 339 twin outboard to diesel inboard with surface drive. Its a pretty straight forward build, just need to be accurate on geometry and use resilient construction methods (i.e. Epoxy, Biax, vacuum bagging).

    It went from: 33.9' to 38.5'
    Twin 200's to twin Yanmar 6LY2 tuned and dyno'd to 454 hp.
    Two speed gear and surface drive with Rolla Props
    44 Knots first gear, 52 Knots WOT second gear

    I have a friend with a boat with a similar power train.

    that design has lots of advantages and there are other engines out there under development as well
