    hi!

I am interested in looking at designs of trailerable sail boats. Can you guys point me to designs and constructions of trailerable sail boats? Is the size of the largest trailers (non commercial) same in the US and Europe? What are the largest designs which are trailerable? Thanks for any tips.

    Cheers

Check with your local motor vehicle registry office for the regs in your area. Over here, a trailerable vessel must have a beam of no more than 2.6 m (8'6") and weigh no more than 4.6 tonnes, including trailer, when on the road. Heavier requires a Class A commercial licence to tow it, and wider requires an Oversize Load permit. There is also a de facto limit of about 4 m in height above the road, or else you'll take off the pilothouse when you encounter an overpass, as well as length restrictions that vary every couple of years.
Common features inherent in most trailer sailers include: water ballast, retractable keel, dimensions and weights limited as described above.

Corsair has a 28' trailerable trimaran (F28) that is very fast. The Ama's fold up so it can fit on a trailer.

I do not think it is the same for US and Europe.

For US, max beam seems to be 8' 6" (2.59 m)

For europe, max width 2.55m, max length 12m, max overall weigth for non truck trailers : 3500 kg. Classified as O2 trailers in EU regulations.

Each EU countries seems to restrict the use of such maximum O2 trailers with additional driving licenses or conditions on towing vehicule (or both...).

In France, most SUV and ligth trucks cannot tow a 3500 kg trailer.
In the "low cost" series , you have only the Land Rover defender 110/130 or the Iveco Daily 35 serie ligth truck.
At 3000 kg overall for trailer, number of potential towing vehicule increases a bit. At 2700 kg, you have more choice.
