    2 x 2 x 8 douglas fir $11.95.
    2 x 4 x 8 douglas fir $36.00 and change.

    But your left over strip will be undersized, not 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 2 1/8 ( on the diagonal ) like the other 4.

You're the carpenter. What are you suggesting, smaller fillets?

And what about 2 x 4 house construction studs?
They tend to be the cheapest way to go.

Yes sir. But, isn't douglas fir lighter and more rot resistant?

    Compared to what?
And does it matter if it's sealed in epoxy fiber?
    Ask the carpenter.

Compared to pine. And I don't have all the answers, that is why I am asking. I have read that completely sealing certain woods holds what moisture it has in it and speeds up rot.

Douglas fir is very heavy and hard. SPF, or standard framing stud is fine.
A full 1½ by 1½ fillet is overkill for a small boat. ¾ by ¾ is fine.

Ok, so my 1 x 2s would work then. Thanks big brother.

So, what size fillets should Cajunpockettunnel use?

¾" bedded and faired in thickened epoxy will do, but bigger are easier to drive fasteners in to.

I have decided to glue some 1 x 4s together. It took me a little pulling to square up what I have built so far. But, I am going back to work today FINALLY. So, it will be a week or 2 or 3 before I do anything else. But, thanks Blue and Dog for the advice.

    Incremental progress is progress. 20260116_140637.jpg
My current build. 40'x12' 12mx3.6m work platform. It will take a 1.5 ton point load, or 12 tons distrubuted. Hard point halfway down the left side for attached heavy structure.
