I am going with my own design on this one. Check out the transom shape.

Have you got a drawing that you can post of your design?
Have you worked out the hydrostatics and stability of it yet?

For the most part I am going to use the plans I have, I am just making subtle changes.

I did a little research last night. It seems that a full tunnel hull really doesn't start working until around 50mph. My boat wont go that fast. Maybe 40 ish. So, other than hooking, it should be ok. I just want to design my own. We shall see. It's going go take me awhile. My wife wants a new dog, ($1,400.00) so I have to watch what i spend on this for now.

Please do post your drawings (even if they are rough sketches on the back of a napkin), as I am sure that you will receive good constructive opinions about them on here.

Re your wife's desire for a new dog, surely it would be much easier to go down to your local Shelter, and get a nice dog there for much less than $1,400?
And then you have more $$'s to spend on boatbuilding materials :)

Hahaha, if only bajan. We both want a dachshund. We put a deposit down on her. A little black and tan. As far as drawings I dont have any. Other than the prints I have. I am more or less using them for the tunnel and sponsor design. The rest will be as I build. I'm going for mor of a certain look.

This is kind of what I am going for. But it's already changed a little.

    Change is good.
Great to see your drawings. Thanks.

I wrote to your design vendor asking for study plans.
    I haven't heard back.

Have you ridden in one of these TU-16 designs?
If so, what did you like about it?
    Or
Do you just plain like the look of it.

Is it a proven design, or are there common criticisms amongst owners as to their performance characteristics?
And to the contrary, are there performance characteristics that you are drawn to?

The more proven the design, the less variation to the plan.
    Just sayin.

Can't wait to see the build begin.

I've looked up reviews to the plans. The TU-14 which is a 13 ft boat gets good reviews. With a 50 hp it moves in the 40's. They claim this design handles rough, choppy water very well. That is what i am after. Something that will handle chop. The last one I built is a wet ride in rough water.

I just want to design my own. My build. My way, if you catch my drift. I am shooting for an eye catching boat. How will it perform? I do not know, but, I will take my time and build it.

3 sheets of 1/2" for the transom so far. I have to cut 1 more to make it 2".

"After discussing this with an experienced wood worker, there is no getting around it. I am going to build as per what the plans call for."

"I am going with my own design on this one. Check out the transom shape."

The two quotes above were posted within an hour of each other.
No wonder I'm confused. What's going on?

But then this post, which partially explains it:
"For the most part I am going to use the plans I have, I am just making subtle changes."

Fantastic, so long as you realize the extent to which "subtle" changes can affect the performance of a proven design.
To be blunt, I'm not sure you do, otherwise, you wouldn't make such changes.

Either way, I look forward to your progress.

Sorry for the confusion. My mind tends to work overtime. After doing some research, a full tunnel hull really doesn't start to work until 50 mph. I will be lucky to get 45 mph out of this boat. I mainly am using the tunnel design. Everything else will be my own.

We shall see. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

After some research, I cut my transom down and reshaped it. Let me know your thoughts.
