Solid rivets or bolts

    Hey guys. I am still working on my 16' aluminum jon boat. I just replace the wood in the transom and coated it with poly resin. Now I am starting to put it back together. I was wondering if it would be ok if I used equivalent sized carriage bolts, if so should i use stainless or galvanized? What do you think?

    Is there any contact between the bolts and the aluminum?
    If there isn't, use stainless bolts and nuts with a smear of grease on the thread. Galvanized fasteners will start rusting on the thread as soon as you have torqued the nuts.

    If there is contact, use only aluminum fasteners.
