New Project

Hi All,

A friend of mine has recently purchased a Birchwood 22 motor cruiser hull for refurbishement, and I have agreed to help him out as a way of occupying my spare time.

Problem is neither of us are super knowledgeable on boat DIY. I am at a slight advantage as I have been around boats all my life, but he is a nebie so to speak.

Anyway, we are having a debate at the moment considering the technical bits. The boat was originally a stern drive, but that has been removed, along with the engine, as they where both unservicable. I think we have noe decided to go for an outboard, which is where questions arise.

First off, there isa big hole in the back of the boat..... is it best to fill this and fit an outboard bracket staright onto the transom, or convert it into a motor well (the engine willbe approx 10HP)??

Secondly, I have no knowledge of remote operation outboards. Are only some models suitable for it, or can pretty much any outboard be converted to run from the helm?

Thirdly whats the deal with charging onboard batteries with an outboard?

Sorry for all the questions, I have tried searching the web, but to no avail really. can anyone recommend some decent sites?
