Good books to get started in yacht design

    Hi all

    Please excuse my lack of knowledge at this moment in time. I am interested in getting into yacht design and was wondering if some of you might be able to recommend some good books to get me started. I hve tried reading through 'Yacht design by Larsson' but it assumes that you already have some basic knowledge, which I don't. My background is a masters degree in aircraft design so I have a good grip of engineering concepts etc but am looking to convert from aircraft to yachts. I don't currently have any sailing experience either.

    PAR Yacht Designer/Builder

    Ted Brewer's book (Understanding Boat Design) on boat design is a good primer. It'll get you up to speed on terms and the general concepts and principles. Larsson's will be an easier read afterward.

    Skene's Elements of Yacht Design (8th edition) redone by Francis S. Kinney is another good book, as is The Nature of Boats by Dave Gerr
