The motor yacht "Destiny " rolled off the slipway during launch a few years ago because of incorrect ballasting .

Was that during a re launch?
Destiny was a Schweers built in the 80's I thought?
Speaking of stability we used to call Feadships floating caravans after they built NHL and did you ever hear the story of it rolling to the gunwhale in the Golf of Lyon years ago
A German captain was killed the other day when his box ship did a big roll in the wind and he fell from one side of the bridge to the other.
I guess that was a lack of hand rails.

I read the BSU report on that accident. Basically one of the main reasons for that accident was excessively high initial stability due to loading condition and unfavorable sea conditions. So the vessel started to roll wit extreme acceleration (very short roll period for that ship size) and two of the watchkeeping crew were literally thrown through the 14m wide bridge which left the luckier one of them with several broken bones while the captains injuries were fatal.

What has this got to do with boat design-- this is more of a gossip colum news release -- Myself and others have real engineering and design threads under this heading(boat design) and our threads keep getting buried under such frivilious bull. As an example I have to basically post replys to myself to keep my thread current so it doesn't get buried on page 2. This is not the sole responsibility of the moderator, we as members have a responsibility here, you guys out there that are fast to see vision after the fact, then here's an engineering challenge, provide me with an answer to my query on
the keel cross sectional taper factor and the first one that provides the info backed by research references i will pay $100. ___geo.

Well, you can't really expect all the other forum discussions to stop until someone gives an answer to questions in your favorite threads... ;)

Ya Daiquiri and i certainly don't expect such but it is frustrating to see good threads, swamped by such frivilious crap. And I do understand where you are coming from, but if you read the thread I'm not the only one to express discontent. I recall 6 months ago many expressed disfavour(myself very strongly) with the anamosity on this forum and look now it is basically history and I think we've all grown and gained from it. So all i'm saying is lets get back to the basics and focus on the headings under which we post our topics. I don't need the forum support to build a vessel, I've been building them for ni on 35yrs and i challenge any to be more seaworthy but thats not the point I want to learn to do it better and pass on my experiences. I learn from guys like you, Par, Tad, and many others and as a layman so to say, I try to translate that into my posted build so others out there who fear to thread do make that step into their dreams. Anyhow no big deal maybe it's time for me to ship out anyhow, got a boat to build and I am spending far too much time on the forum, thanks for the smiley face--Geo.

The problem is, this thread is in the wrong place, it belongs under Open Discussion if it belongs in the forum at all.

Viking, there seem to be lots of answers to your question in your thread. You're not going to get a mathematical equation to a question with so many variables, imponderables and downright unknowns.

    ASTONISHING!!
When the Mercedes A class rolled on debut Moose test in front of the world, Mercedes did not threaten to sue the journos
He should tell what he saw and not feel threatened. Taking pics of a launch is not illegal and people will come to their own conclusion and maybe save some poor future owner years of litigation.

Mistakes will always be made, vanity makes one aggressive and hostile in his defense. Common sense will make you act rationally.

Sure will and in an effort to avoid them it would do us all well to study the errors of those who went ahead of us.

Ok as suggested from the 1st post, I have read this thread from A-Z and I sum up by saying
A fool and his money are soon parted
