    Hello all

I just sold my excessively luxurious 57 foot Van de Stadt after a Caribbean trip so now I am boatless. But not peniless.

I am now looking at a Roberts 53 multi chine steel ketch 3/4 keel skeg rudder 30 tonnes, she seems very well built, sails well in a sheltered bay and is fitted out in more of a boaty style (rather than a 4* hotel. )

Does anyone have any experience or opinions on these boats, amy nasty habits under sail, and I was wondering if anyone has weathered some heavy seas aboard one of these and how she fared.

    Any thoughts very welcome
    Thanks
    Jim

    there are plenty around
What I would do, is get a high volume hose and run it over the deck and hatches, I would do this no matter what I bought
I do not know about the ultimate stability of this boat, I would ask Bruce Roberts that, he has a website, ask himwhat is the angle of vanishing stability IF she was built to plan
Most of these were built by either amatuers or engineering firms,
Lift all the flloor boards, check for rust, then go to www.yachtworld.com and search the value.
Have fun, dont ever by a yacht with an engine from some obscure manufacturer or an engine that has been home converted
They are big cheap cruisers and always seem to readily resale

    Thanks lazyjack

I was hoping for some anecdotal tales of derring-do abaord one of the beasts.

I shall forgoe your Atkinson thankyou. Good luck selling.

However if anyone has a husky steel 50 to 60 footer for sale anywhere in the world I would like to hear about it.
Or maybe I should build my final boat. The perfect collection of compromises. Any designers out there that can embrace a heavy steel comfortable cruiser for an old scotsman?

Maybe I should start a new post.
