    Hi Moggie,
Shhhhh I need something to grizzle about that cannot be fixed...

Far too much on my - plate - 'to-do-list' - - At the moment queued up are fix the anchor winch, - - - get the parts to rebuild the port rudder (broken by something between Mackay and Cairns), - - - mow 14.5 acres of madly overgrown bush and the old "ride-on" is really in need of some serious mechanical 'pimping' (a Rover Rancher with an 11hp B&S engine) with a steering system that is independent of my direction via the steering wheel - going where it wishes at odd moments, refusing to change gears, throwing the v-belt that drives the mowing blades, a throttle that slows itself down, bottoming on small bumps and spinning the wheels to no effect, - - (holes dug by some night visitors seeking worms, grubs, termites or roots... A wombat - eats, roots, shoots, and leaves - I wish I could get more of that sort of action... The ground is so heavily overgrown that I use a brush cutter to cut the woody weeds, 10 ft tall grass clumps etc before even thinking of the ride on mower...

How strange, my meat is hung too? - (Hung out to die)...

I presently use "gThumb" because it is intuitive for me and I have difficulty learning other apps (I get bloody lost), which does the work at a click of the mouse button, but I first select the images then save them in a special folder so I know which images I have posted - I have just completed installing Linux Mint 13 maya, and tweaking it and downloading printer drivers and so on to my satisfaction... The trouble is I cannot remember where I took the images as I turned off the GPS in the camera... AND I have been busy with physical work on the "farm" or socialising at Kuranda... It is not all that wet up here (the tail end of the "dry season") but everything looks quite green and lush...

    Hi Frosty,

Seems you have your piece of paradise all sorted... For me, water is free (I got to find a toilet block and drive the boat up close run out the hose to the tap (potable town water supply) and fill up my tanks, Black water - go beyond the reefs and territorial waters and empty my holding tank, electricity is from the PV panels, fuel I must buy or make (coconut oil), Cars or motorbikes I 'borrow' - paying to fill up...

Masalai, dont be gullable... that analysis was HYPOTHETICAL not THEORETICAL, and its clearly been SPRUIKED by these GOLD INVESTORS.

Theyve clearly put a decent sum of money into gold - and they admit this - and now they seek to incite panic in order to get people to run to gold and drive the price up, servicing their own agenda...

Dont beleive the hype Mas, the end of the world is not certain, only that your days in good health on this earth are limited - my advice is to make the most of what you have left and leave the gambling to people who can afford to loose it.

    Hi groper

So, What is new - and in Australia, the "Banking Act" has a nice clause that allows the Australian Gubment at the "order of the Governor General" to confiscate all privately held gold - - - WTF in Australia !!!!!!, , Besides I am a poverty stricken pensioner living well below the "Poverty Level" - - - I do not bother with the spruiking, just the news analysis to stir...

The rudder post is ordered, Awaiting reply to let me know how much I must pay (by email)... No service from the cell-phone unless I stand in the middle of the paddock and hold the back of the phone towards the east...

Groper, come up on Sunday, there is a big meeting at the "Top Pub" on this Sunday 28th Oct at 4PM in Kuranda to talk about the 'mens-shed' I am going, See you there? and your dad too? . . . The 'organisers' would like to break a record for numbers - to shame the councillor & pollies...

Mas, the ability of the gubment to "effectively confiscate gold", law has been in effect since 1959... will you care if the next big gold rush begins when your 6 feet under? The point is, who cares, good reason not to buy it, good reason to buy it, whatever... its all gambling mate... plenty of spruikers on both sides, you just choose to read the negative sentiment...

Why not go and buy lottery tickets and wait till you win something? oh i forgot, the chance of winning the jackpot assuming you play 10 chances per week, every week, is once every 40,000 years... hence i do not play lotto... ever...

    Hi Groper,

I usually choose to link stuff that scratches my warped sense of humour or something that will elicit a reaction from the s*****s... At this point in time I am an idly curious observer amazed at the ability in USA and Europe to deftly "Kick the can down the road", and manipulate all the markets with huge collateral damage to all trading operations outside of USA... I never thought such an ally as USA would be so despicable, inconsiderate and uncaring of the potential adverse impact on friends and allies...

Sad to see someone still so naive as you, at your age. In international affairs, there are no permanent friends, only permanent interests. A very old quote and still apposite.

WRT gold, what a crock that is. I spend my money on boats, books, tools and booze. I have land to live on. If the world economy goes ****-up, I still have my books, tools and land (the boat is a luxury toy). You'd have a boat that can go nowhere without fuel, and gold that you can't eat or exchange for fuel because there isn't any. Good luck with that strategy....

Oh, I dunno - at least you can fish from a boat, after you get sick of potting Wallabies from your verandah :p

Boats without sails are not very 'end of the world' standard, thats for sure

Only a naive idiot would not hold a % of gold in their investment asset mix given the current global climate. If you don't have any, you really need to educate yourself as to what gold is an why it is important at this point in history!

    Learn how financial repressions work.

Get your head around the concept of currency wars.

Get to grips with and understand what inflation really is and how it actually works both within a domestic economy and the international economy... no Johnny it is not the CPI.

Learn about modern currencies and how they function and what all but one international currency have in common.

This will break your retirement plans if you don't get your head around what is actually happening out there!

    Bye now....! :p

    Hi Moggy,
I tried for two years to no avail in this forum... Se la vie...

I am all set for whatever transpires... Make my own fuel, grow my own food and all the rest to be totally independent of "town services" - - I am sure I could also find some gold, as the terrain is very similar to Lihir...

    Hi RW,
During the monsoon season sails flap uselessly when the doldrums arrive and 'CNO' runs nicely on locally produced coconut oil that can be made in most remote Melanesian villages... I can also erect a mast and sails as the chain-plates, mast-step and necessary strong-points are already there...

Tried for 2 years to do what. We heard you ---just what response were you expecting.

Golden rule buy low sell high. I think gold has already been bashed to death.

What is gold? well its some yellow stuff dug out of the ground and humans then put it in a safe. Any Aliens looking down would be scratching their heads. It used to be used to fill teeth with but other than that it is utterly useless and has no value except that of the owners imagination.

    Sorry Frosty,
Gold is the only currency that cannot be debased, It has efficiently served as the most stable form of currency for thousands of years whereas the purchasing power of the USA$ has fallen to about ONE CENT as compared to its purchasing power in 1970 prior to the separation of the US$ from the "gold standard"...

If you had bought a little gold when I started my - so called - "Preaching" on the topic - - you would have more than tripled your net worth. . . . and the increase in value of gold has a long way to go still as most global currencies are slowly and steadily trying to implement a controlled de-valuation of their own currencies, to remain competitive in trade and reduce the effective exposure to "BAD" debt that they carry...
