    Hi frosty,
That word is censored to slow spam posting, in my old website I would get at least 3 posts a day selling that "health product" from USA/Canadian sellers...

Did you not know? The year 2020, is the year of "perfect hindsight" celebration / reflection......

    Sorry Hoyt and Bert,
Could not carry enough PV panels to replace a diesel engine running on coconut oil... and what happens when making an overnight passage? have 8 panels now (1400watts) and maximum is 13 panels for 2275 Watts...

Under the forward halves of the in hull berths aft I am contemplating installing 2 x 500 or 600 litre fuel bladders from http://www.turtlepac.com/en/products/super-deck-tanks.html as the floor there is raised and final decisions still to be made and measured... That will give me convenient long range passage making capacity...

To keep the autopilot and other navigational stuff running I have found a small 700 watt petrol powered gen-set which can maintain the batteries and 240vac stuff when and as needed during passage... A bit of noise but mobility overnight so watches are needed not significant pilot-age skills to steer a compass course... This little engine/generator is less than Au$300 - significantly less than all other options...

Still thinking of all the options available... I need to get out and get a job so I can buy the mast and sails...

You poo pooed this idea -a year or more ago when I suggested it.

    Glad your learning.

With a total dead boat you can now hand start something to charge something else. Its imperative, and I do go so far as to say it should be a legality.

Mas, I do not know if you are aware of the hour rating on some of these small engines from zchina. Some have a rating of 100 hours, that is why they are so cheap (besides manufacturing costs/labour being cheaper anyhow). Take care when purchasing these are they will run, but are mostly crap....you do often get what you pay for.

    Hi Landie,
Thanks for the reminder, that is mostly why I have not purchased yet, - - and the long (overnight) passages will possibly see the "100 hours" last for 3 or four years, as I prefer to anchor up in the lee of some island, or up a sheltering creek and "day-sail" to enjoy the scenery...

It will rust out before it runs out.

Many are repackaged Yanmars or Hondas as is the Mariner outboard a Mercury.

I suspect "juveniles" as the culprits (XMAS break) - - (surely adults are not so idiotic), as some have attempted to 'borrow' - actually steal my boat the other day just before I visited to relocate my anchorage in anticipation of a strong wind forecast (a 7 day forecast is available here: http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/cha...pe=windbarb&level=10m&tz=AEST&area=Au&model=G ), to find the engine batteries totally flat... I needed to apply a boost and recover process as AGM's are not happy when flattened...

Closer examination indicated extended attempts to start the engines by the screwdriver across the solenoid lug and since the engines come with electric shut-off / fuel-valve they would not start... As a consequence the boat could have been in danger... Luckily the forecast proved to be overstated and less than 20 knots wind was recorded... I do not know how they proposed to steer, or otherwise control the engines, or lift the anchor - - as all security screens were still in place and untampered and alarm did not activate... ??????

I still have the prospect of a shorted/burnt out starter motor on Port engine, and need to do further checks on BOTH the start batteries...

I will post the attached notices on the boat - hopefully as a deterrent... - In the meantime I must find an 'auto-electrician' or some-such, to check out the electrics and possibly remove the starter motor (A REAL PAIN IN THE ARSE JOB for a small, fit, supple and patient person to do....) and if defective I will have to get a replacement in  farkinell......

At least the rain today will wash the seagull poo off the PV panels.... :D whilst the land based / domestic rainwater tanks are filled... :D :D

An email, containing a pdf brochure, from the Australian supplier of the Yanmar diesel outboards is attached...

Offers a nice range of propellers and electric tilt which is nice and clearance from the bottom of the transom of 18 inches when tilted up, and on a top of transom to cavitation plate up to 27 inches "ultra long" leg extension... (D27AX-EP-UL) at 104kg (229 pounds)

At a pinch the 11.5 inch diameter propeller could fit but "warranty" ? - - I am comparing what I have comfortably running on my 20hp engines, and pushing my boat could possibly get away with 11.5 x 13 and still do 6+ knots on one and 12 knots? on both? with reasonable efficiency... These are lighter than my 20hp Nanni's of 144kg each - BUGGER... I could have avoided mini-keels  - but then I would loose the sail option, but as an 'ageing old fart' - so what....

Jees........ To win a small lotto, (Au$50K) - - and I would swap.... and change the back porch arrangement, fit pod/mounting transom behind the under bridgedeck 45% chamfer P & S for the outboard brackets and relocate the engine controls aft, - - As on passages I steer using the autopilot as it is more accurate, and for coming alongside or in tight confines or setting the anchor, - engine throttles are better...

No idea on price yet but that can wait until I have some money... Now if that pdf was available online - a google search would have found it and I would be diesel outboard powered NOW... farkinshitbugger.......

Anyone interested in a pair of Nanni 20hp saildrive systems with about 150 hours each, on the clock. - - Will be sold in good condition... - - PM me with offers for you to collect at Monties Marina where I will have the systems removed...
