What does CNO stand for? When I first saw it, I thought it said CDO! :)

BTW: That Oram is a great design. Beautiful lines.

CNO relates to ability to run using CocoNutOil........ Bob has designs up to about 80 ft - all cats... power and sail... I think he has retired from kit designs... Contact Judy and Tom in Darwin, they are building a 44C slowly and with perfection in quality as their 'motto'.... ScrumbleProject... They used to manage Bobs website...

Copied from Manies build thread - cause I am lazy today...

Go Go GO...... the ladder is a training device to strengthen your legs for life at sea... The phase you are in is soon forgotten and the excitement of "trials" and fine tuning further delays the cruise departure.... Try to remember this when you are "mid ocean" and can see no progress in your voyage as there are no landmarks to measure ones progress... Life is full of these frustrations... Look at my doomsday threads... Howled down left right and centre... I too am pissed as I crave to continue my travels and seem to be blockaded... Bugger, and this morning I was contentedly dreaming that I received a 38,000 pound sterling "grant" and in excitement woke up before banking it...

    The cruise is,
a), up the coast in leisurely fashion to Cairns, - or make a mad panic dash to do "b)" or "c)"
b), a passage to Samarai Is, to clear customs, and then gunk-hole around Goodenough, Fergusson & Normanby islands and back to Cairns/Brisbane... or
c), over the top of Cape York via Torres Strait, and so to the Gulf of Carpentaria and visit my home port "Gove", and other places of interest like the SE corner of the Gulf to observe the "Morning Glory" as it passes... or all of them or none?

Slowly accumulating fuel and other necessities... Carpeted the bridge-deck floor - looks quite neat (in a rough 'bushy style'.), - an improvement - what remains to be seen, or rather not-heard, - is, - will it lessen the engine noise for those - non-deaf fellow travellers? - it is rubber backed...

Fuel supply is now 200 litres, (=400 miles at 6 knots approximately), - slowly accumulating... as the pension allows... 1600 to 1800 litres and I should be ready...

...I hope it is not rubber backed in that black stuff, cos if it is, within a year you will be covered in black dust as it falls apart.

    Landie,
I hope the "rubber part" is durable too...........

    dialdan,
Been researching them too, price is almost the same as a normal mast and a pair of 45M genoa, and the controls are complex... - particularly in collapsing and packing...

Round parachutes (modified) are a bit better for control but not cheap either and seem happiest with a mast to launch... - Both options seem to demand foredeck presence to 'launch' & 'retrieve', not so with genoa....

Thanks for your input, keep looking, as someone is bound to sort out the issues sooner or later...

Price of PV panels seems to be coming down, 24V - 175W - - 1600mm x 800mm have come down some 30% from when I bought mine... Another 5 may be nice? but not really high on the needs list...

First is battery charger from Christie Engineering, (around Au$1485) http://www.christieengineering.com.au/Products.asp?PCat=Diesel battery chargers
    Then 60LPH watermaker, (more expensive)
Followed by mast & 2 x genoa... (lots more expensive)

Somewhere in the mix is proper fuel tanks? 2 x VOYAGER 600litre http://www.turtlepac.com/en/products/super-deck-tanks.html (the lot around $40K) :D

Nice to dream and hope - occasionally....

Ide stick something in the hole and buy a second hand sail for a few hundred dollars. It'lle pull you along.Even with rope rigging, seen a few gone round the world.

Your not a mechanic Mas drifing hundreds of miles will not be nice. I know you cut all risks to minimum with new engines N all but **** happens.

Mind you plenty of Aus soast guards in Northern waters. You'lle prob be able to see at least one all day and they have good photographers on board filming "Border security so we'lle be able to see you on Telly.

And if youi fly an Indoneaian flag they will escort you all the way to Bali for free.

The mast is the difficult part as it relies on 4 stays, 2 fwd and 2 aft and none midships, and the chain-plates are built-in and there; - in place... - - As is the mast-step (being used by the radar at present)... There is no point or advantage in using something heavy and small, that will be ineffective and a complete waste of money and effort... I do have the capacity and materials to erect a jury rig...

Bali is some 2000 miles West, out of my planned trip at this point in time

Sitting pretty, awaiting my attentions (another 150 litres of fuel) to be delivered this weekend or Monday / Tuesday, - - as I want to be there when the prawn-Trawlers return, - following a wet day on Bribie Island as the prawns will be extra sweet..........

Now that sounds nice, hot fried up with chilli and boiled rice eh?

Wok cooking is difficult on a boat you need an effin hot fire as well and any fish cooking makes the boat stink.

You got a good aft deck for that stuff.
