    Hi Boston and others,
    Bugger my own pension, Go first, worry and fix later ... If there is any extra it will hopefully be backdated and give me funds for another voyage...

    There is only so many delays that one can accept... I am scared I may loose "all" my functioning memory before I get to bugger off...

    A short test run tomorrow morning, then reschedule the timing to reach the entrance to the Great Sandy Straight, final check on the forecast then a night run with the full moon (well just a day or so old)...

    May not be posts for a while, (unless the trip is aborted for some bloody reason) see ya all when I get access to the net next...

    Most links are fused, the smaller ones are switched and fused... and there are several levels of master switches and all that stuff... The dry joint was in the positive line from the battery to the starter-motor - as thick as my finger onto lugs... all other lines are crimped and some are crimped and soldered and covered with heat-shrink...

    dam I'm a space cadet, have been for the duration though so I guess/hope its nothing to worry about.

    oh well glad everything it working out for you and "dam the torpedoes" go have a great time

    speaking of torpedoes my car got torpedoed a few weeks ago and dealing with all that has delayed my own build by a few while I build this truck into something livable, being the cheap bastad I am I didn't feel like running out and buying so I just am making do with what I've got. Besides its free fuel, and I drive a lot so thats a pretty big deal for me.

    So whats your first destination and got any pictures, did you already buy land for the plantation or are you speculating on a find when you get there. Any chance of simply collecting from uninhabited atolls and processing on a more modest purchase or is there some way to incorporate the system onto your build and process on board.

    I'm rethinking my retirement build for an on board pyrolysis system but thats down the road and after the one I lofted last month

    A rough idea of where I am going they are KMZ files from GoogleEarth... The upload facility does not accept KMZ suffix so I have put txt - to reuse just rename the extension from 'txt' to 'KMZ', place on your desktop and double click it - presumably you have GoogleEarth installed and it should then open with the file displayed

    - the "Queensland passage" is ideas about 90 N Miles apart
    - Cairns to Samarai gives an idea of the route to PNG (not my actual plan but some of the things I considered along the route)...

    Nothing but having a look with hope and optimism... I have been away for too long and need to refresh my personal knowledge on current policy and opportunities... I have plenty of ideas, which may all be useless, not-appreciated, not-viable or otherwise non-starters for a variety of reasons... This is just a "look and see" visit...

    Other employment prospects may be found in Weipa or Gove, back in Australia... Failing all that "rot in a hospice" and annoy everyone on the internet with my pontification...

    We did have guy called Masalai but he sailed off in a cat oh--years ago I think it was. He went off on his own to coconut island and they put him in a big cooking pot with potatos and carrots.

    He said he could make a good pie!!

    Some things that had to be done...
    The folding props on a boat in need of manoeuvring in close confines with annoying cross winds and tidal flows were inadequate,,, so, saving up for fixed blade 15" x 11" pitch three blade propellers to be fitted...

    Also, when coming in to a shallow anchorage where the waters are not "tropically translucent" and clear, I have had a few close encounters, (No not THAT close)... I must work out a better system for my (shallow) depth sounder than hanging the transducer through a gap in the corner of the trampoline...

    Better broadcast and HF radio reception is another consideration, and also another means to charge my 24V house bank when the 1400w (58A, 24V) of PV/solar panels are inadequate...

    CNO rides and surfs the waves beautifully displaying no broaching tendencies and recorded a max speed of 19.5knots on two occasions, riding a good swell... The max speed under max (3750 rpm) power is 8.2knots... (she is UNDER-PROPPED)... Recommended max rpm is 3600 (about 7.1 knots) and max cruise is 3000 rpm (about 6.2 knots) and on one engine about 5.1 knots... I will go through my logbook to affirm the correctness of those readings later...

    A 10 to 15 knot westerly, coming off the land, creates a nasty chop about 2 and more miles off-shore giving a nasty ride as the beam on waves are really uncomfortable - BUT easily eliminated by quartering somewhere between 15 and 30 degrees and ride is smoothe... Further out these waves get confused in the regular SE swell... I found that following the shoreline closely (200 metres) I avoided much of the tidal currents and had a pleasant ride... half a mile off-shore and I could pick up the tidal currents when the flow was favourable adding an additional 1 or so knots in speed over ground...

    If I can restrain myself from "pushing up the speed" and happily cruise on one engine making around 5 to 6 knots average, on one engine I have very good range burning just under 3 litres/hour... Working the tidal flows and 2 miles a litre is easy... Existing fuel tanks are 1350 litres...

    Now to save up and prepare for some serious passage making (WITH CREW) as some of the legs up the coast are overnighters or several days... (120 or so miles weaving amongst a myriad islands with limited safe anchorages, rocky outcrops, tidal flows of 3 knots making for a "bumpy" ride, and then the 450 mile run to PNG...) Not sure now if this ageing old fart will make it all the way up there now... The mind still thinks I am 21 and bullet proof but the body tells me age is catching up fast - just find a warm spot that is relatively calm/protected and be contented....

    WHAT? after 3 years building it you don't know if you can do it WTF

    I think its just shock,---shock of having the sudden work load stop. Youlle be alright once you get going. Sitting on a beach always sounds good till you do it and after 5 minutes your looking round wondering what to do.

    Take a little plastic bucket and spade an make sand castles,--beats reading books any day. I feel sorry for people that need to read a book to keep their brain working if it ever did.
