Please excuse my intrusion. When you mention 33 tons and 1.3 m draft, are you referring to the canoe body draft or the total draft? Thank you.

Canoe body draft. The boat is what the french call a "deriveur integral" a centerboarder with inside ballast (I think this is the only type of modern yacht to have the ballast in the bilge) where the centerboard fully retracts into the bilge. Total draft, centerboard vertical is 3.5m.

I think the 20cm difference between arhitect and user comes from the arhitect giving the light displacement draft. 33t is the full load displacement, it's not mentioned what the light displacement or PPI of the hull is. Or maybe in its current life as an expedition boat it carries more then originally intended, or more probably a combination of the two.

I love cats, but building one is like building two boats and a bridge. My initial idea was a cat, but after considering the building effort (watching Delos 2, for example), I turned to DS monohulls.

Offshoring the construction to Asia would require me to be there inspecting the build; I would not trust an unsupervised build.

Also, after witnessing the drama with HH, would you consider outsourcing the most critical part of the build?

Anyways, I have to be near the CET time zone for working purposes. So, the southern EU is the best bet for me.

all fine, but you’ll need to find out how to meet insurance requirements of a build space and find a surveyor / government that will register your vessel incompleted .. here the USCG will not offer documentation on a boat until it is complete

most marinas require insurance and I tried to get a builder policy, but could not .. I actually had a horrible time finding coverage for a custom build and need to find a new agency this year after I move

Comparing a custom build to a production build is silly. Many of the HH problems were related to fitout.

I don’t know the HH problems with great specificity, but avoiding build problems is not just a function of supervision. The first step is using processes that have lower failure rates; and then qualified supervision. Most likely, you are not as qualified as you may believe. To this day, I feel my build work was good, but took about 2 months to iron out methods (1st step). And I still had some microvoids in final laminates.

Another thing for you to mull over. Many boat builds fail. My build would have probably been a technical failure if not for the help of two forum members. You don’t want to be the only person advising you on the build. You will spend too much time on the ‘moaning’ chair.
