I have some information to this build. The Vaka is left over from the original Magic Hempel, a Dragonfly 25 (MK I) which won it's class in the famous Rond Britain Racewas, was imported to the US and crashed during a regatta due to a waterstay failiure. Kurt bought the wreck and rebuilt it with some new and updated ama's. The Ama is a tortured ply / cylinder mould structure that started it's live as a experiment for his building technique. The result is a 23 x about 8.25 foot. The proa weight is 80 lbs. The power is a 4 HP 4 stroke outboard. The fuel efficiency according to Kurt is measured in “years to the gallon.” The Proa does up to 13 knots with 2 crew onboard.
The build is unknown as Kurt does curved plywood or foam glass structures in the size of tri’s mentioned here. Kurt also would have a lot of left over materials from other builds he has done EG 40 foot short handed trimarans etc.
.
Have Fun, Michel
