I have a copy of 3/5/1974 "Sea Spray" mag that contains an article about Loch Crowther's 55ft tri. I could scan it and email or post it on this site (if it's possible).

Yes please, I'd be interested in seeing the article the best idea would be to scan the document and attach it using the paperclip icon that you see in the top part of the message bar when you post a message to the forum. That will let you upload the files, cheers.

I made friends with the delivery crew of "Spirit" in Miami around 1975. The boat was hauled at a railway down the street from the Chandler I worked at. I was living on my 30ft Piver at the time and Spirit was the most awesome thing I had ever seen. The crew was taking the boat across the pond for the owner to sail back in the singlehanded transatlantic race.

Those were really some golden years for multihulls. At the time Miami's Hobie Fleet 36 was the largest one design fleet in the world, the Newick Tri's were so different and beautiful at the same time, and radical stuff (at the time) like Cheers and the Twiggy kicking butt along with the single handed races and the tradewinds races made things really exciting.

I sailed into Fanning lagoon a thousand miles south of Hawaii in 1974 and there was the most amazing tri I had ever seen. Had some good parties with those guys and we went our separate ways.

Were the beams on all of the Bucc 40's ply? I've seen a few with arching beams for water clearance. Was that a later modification by Lock?

G'day 'Corley' That's a great picture of 'Wings'. She really looks the full-goods. Sure wish I had the money to buy it. I'd give heaps to go for a sail on it. Looks smooth & quick. Should make a great long distance - big ocean - quick cruiser. I'll just have to keep buying lotto-tickets. Only tri I've seen - that would come close - in up in SE Asia @ 1/3rd the price but much less volume & not 'kitted' out as well.

Have a great festive season everybody, Ciao, james
