I grew up owning a ski boat which led to many fond family memories. I have children who are to the age where I would like to introduce them boating/skiing.

In the sprit of creating family memories I am strongly considering an attempt at building an open bow runabout 16’ – 18’ similar in concept to the Mastercraft MS245 or Regal 2220. The build method I am considering is combination plywood sheathing (in key areas like the transom) and one-off fiberglass.

I am new to boat building but have experience with woodworking. My question to the forum is three fold:

    1) Is this type of project (design and build) beyond someone without any experience?
    2) What type of construction would you suggest?
    3) What educational resources do you recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

    welcome here....

    1) is a twofold question... design NO! definitely not. Build yes of course!

    2) there are several methods a novice can handle, all have their pro´s and con´s.

Lookup "Glen L" or "boatbuilder central" to get a broad overview!

    3) will be better answered by a US member, here.
