I am building a demountable boat.

There is the need for quite a lot of silencing materials in components that are bolted together.

Most commonly, I am using 1/8" fabric reinforced neoprene and using 3M 4799 adhesive.

Does anyone have an alternative adhesive they use that isn't $70 a quart?

I tested Gardner neoprene flashing cement and it is a clear fail. It just is taking way too long to cure to a state of trust and not slow down my build process.

Any glue needs the ability to take up minor deviations in the substrate of say up to 0.065", so tapes or sprays are out.

    thanks for any

You want a watertight seal as well as silencing ?

Well, it is for a beam saddle and the areas would get wet.

4799 is good stuff, but so pricey

and it seems like rubber cement to me

You want to be able to get it apart again, or have that ability ? You are relying on a mechanical connection, not assisted by any goo ? It seems you need a gasket that has the ability to be compressed, like polyethylene closed cell flexible foam.

I used 3m ex4511.. thanks for any replies and keep them coming.

I have a lot of silencing to glue to the boat and still on the fence about the best product.

I also have some latex surgical tube 1/4" as a compression gasket and have to bond it to epoxy.

It'd be pretty hard to get vhb styled tape into the small half circle.

No. It doesn't come apart, the neoprene is silencing, so one side is unbonded; the other side bonded. It really should not compress too much, so I am using 1/8 fabric reinforced neoprene. The part gets bolted to the beam with maybe 5 bolts.

    I'll add a picture tomorrow.
