It would seem that i'm that crazy idea guy but here goes:

I ran across the Minuet and that class of similar micro cruisers that can basically be picked up by hand, and it got me to thinking. It'd might be conceivable to build 2 of such craft and race them.

This lead to even crazier thoughts such as: What if you could have classic mock-naval battles with 2 or more of these boats. Maybe go for classic cannon-style naval battle so the boats should look as "piratey" as possible which probably translates to having 2 masts and at least 3 sails.

The boats could be armed with 1 or more high-pressure pump-action (single shot?) water cannons such as this:

Maybe the boat has a 2 targets on each side and 3 on the rear which are designed to be depressed by the high-pressure water cannons. If they are depressed it causes the cockpit to fill with lake/sea water, but the boat has internal foam/etc ballast so that it actually cannot sink. There would be a pump for the cockpit that is only accessible when used in an obvious manner (such as being placed in an inconvenient location).

    Would this not be awesome?

This takes place in Peasholm park in Scarborough and has been for getting on for 100 years.

Most of the ships are captained by council employees.

The cool thing would be to clandestinely arrive in a functioning mini U boat and fire some low yield torpedoes. Lets see how well the convoy system really works . . .

Watch out for the air cover though, at least it was there in Scarborough when I saw the 'battle' many years ago.....;)

Good to know it is still operating. It used to be done late evening in summer, and had most of the tricks like laying smoke etc. Reasonably effective as the 'flash' from the guns could be seen etc.

Small or Micro yacht racing has been around for years. Most of them are ballasted heavily for operator safety reasons, so require mechanical lifting in some cases
