Delftship - Rhino

How can I export surface from Delftship into Rhino?
the export iges Function doesn't work in the latest Delftship version and when you export as a DXF it comes ini as a mesh

 

I use STL to export from Delftship to Rhino.

 

IGES export is only enabled in the professional version of DELFTship

When i want to export my project in Rhino i use dxf 3d polyline , i think that is better to create my hull's surface in rhino then delftship

I've been looking at that a year or so ago. At this stage I'm not sure though what exactly the benefits are over IGES import/export. IGES files have the advantage that almost any other decent marine design program can read them. I've just downloaded version 4 of the toolkit however so I'll give it another look.

It was just a thought. The benefits over IGES that I can think of right now would be:
1. No guesswork. Since we supply all the code for reading/writing 3dm file format you don't have to interpret wordings in a file format spec document.
2. Less possibility of error on your and our part translating the IGES file. If you save a file from Rhino to IGES format you'll see that we had to write about 60 different "flavors" of IGES for different target applications because everyone interprets IGES in their own way. We had to put a huge effort into exporting IGES files for a large number of applcations.
3. Smaller file size. 3dm files are binary and have some compression
4. Support for non-surface entities (meshes, annotations, clipping planes, hatches,...) in 3dm.

I'm sure there are plenty more that I'm not thinking of right now, but this seems like a good start.

Steve; I am glad you are getting on his case too. I keep telling Martjin that a software the quality of Delftship needs direct in/out to Rhino. Most of my IGES in/out didn't look good.

 

I've had a lot of trouble with iges from Prolines and Catia among others.
Curvature has approach infinity close to edges, for example.
Rebuild in Rhino doesn't help before the shape is changed more than I want.
Section and then Loft is often the answer.

So, 3DM import/export in Delftship?

hi guys, does anyone have full working versions of delfship, navacad, autoship, catia or tribon? i would need ships models databases usable in rhino as well.
