Shades of the M.V. Cougar Ace, a similar type vessel which took a sudden list to port in July 2006, off the Aleutian Islands while en route from Japan to the west coast of Canada and the US with a shipment of Mazda cars:

The vessel was eventually righted, but the cargo was lost, after Mazda decided to have the cars on board crushed instead of sold.

For some reason I thought of the less skillful fate of the SS Politician and it's eagerly salvaged cargo of booze and money. I'm guessing this cargo will be left alone by the locals.

The skipper made an intelligent, if difficult decision, likely saving millions of dollars. As to the cargo, it really doesn't matter when making these types of decisions, just the crew, then the ship and lastly the cargo. Understanding these priorities under duress, is the key to being a good master. This one apparently was.

The Bramble is where one annual cricket match is played in summer...;)

The link below gives currentish details, the weather btw was benign with almost no breeze at all so at least it was not a cause or hindrance in this case.

I'd modify your priorities to just the crew, then the ship and environment, and lastly the cargo.

An attempt to refloat the ship will be made tomorrow at high tide (approx midday) and hopefully, she will be salvaged first time. She did apparently move slightly on the sandbank today. One excavator has punched a hole in the hull, but that has been patched and no other serious damage. Rest of cargo sems secure.

Good luck to the salvage team.

The weather will deteriorate markedly by the weekend as gales will start to blow in from the Atlantic.

That will be down to heading toward sping tides for this month. Fortunately the weather has remained good, though tonight 50 mph gusts are expected. She should be secured properly before those come in.
