That's because you didn't strain it through a 'coon-skin' hat (for our US readers - a reference to Dan'l Boon). Though straining through a living racoon probably makes it more palatable....:D

Anyway. Back to the subject. I seem to remember that the 'fush' boys from Fife believe it extremely unlucky to mention 'pigs' while at sea. The only way to ward off instant bad luck is to touch a piece of iron. :(

Some of the Peegs i sailed with made you want to reach for a lump of iron at the best of times, mainly to hit them with it!!:D

Reminds me of the case of the young loon in the isle of man who (to wind up the older men) stuck his head in the bar door and shouted out P**s, P**s P**, underground mutton (bunnies) and pink fish several times turned round to run away and fell full sprawl smashing his teeth on the pavement - lost four of 'em! Who said superstion don't work!?!:D  :D

Agreed, but in my case it was inescapable. It was off Cape Horn in a Force 15 and we'd been using that part of my anatomy as an emergency bowsprite, and I'd been on duty for 24 hours...Agonising. :(

I have 2: Never build a boat bow ( pointy end)to the water..... and never paint the bottom blue as an indian told me I ask why and He said " The mermaids can't find you if you get into trouble"

I heard this too, which is why I regularly ordered my crew to lift their kilts (downwind) to check that there were no blue painted bottoms...
But before Paul and Walrus protest... Special dispensation allowed blue bottoms at Bannockburn due to the absence of mermaids.... :)

 I'm beginning to think that this part of the Boat Design Forum should be retitled "The Imperial Port of Call". :D

(I'm stuffed with Thanksgiving dinner and don't care what Bergalia says!) :p

Check if your boat is a happy boat.....Why?

    I is a weird story...

I cannot go to much in details, but when I bought my 3rd boat, my wife hated her from the first moment on. She refused to sail with me and she ever came twice on board. The first time she quit after 20 miles sailing.
A few years later, when I was happily divorced due to a dispute about this sailingyacht, I saw the boat again, met the guy who owned her and he started to tell....... He had made some investigation about her istory and he found out that all owners were divorced due to this boat. Before me she had two owners and after me three or four. He had just divorced and had put up the boat for sale.....believe me this is a true story..........
