    Seems we're in the phrase stage here . . . ;)

Think it was George Best who said something like . . .

‘‘ I've spent a lot of money on booze, women and fast cars. The rest I've squandered. ’’

    Must be a popular adage . . . :p

    [IMG] - - [IMG]

George at 31, might look a bit like Manie when he was at the same age . . ? ?

George didn't end well though, but they named an Airport after him.

    Cheers to George :(
    Angel

    P.S. - Found the original quote here . . .
    . . . it appears George was an ornithologist . . . . ;)

They do bear a striking resemblance to one another.

Hey Manie, that's a great compliment that on the present day you can endure comparison with the good looking George of 31 . . :)

So keep on building, and sailing soon I hope, to maintain this [IMG]

Differences I see are the dimple in George's chin and that his lifestyle aged him much faster, last picture he was just 59, this is also the age he died. His lost talent is striking similar to the one Boudewijn de Groot sings about in ‘‘Een wonderkind van 50’’ (A prodigy of 50) which is about a writer. The song is in Dutch (must be understandable in SA ?) the lyrics are below the vid.

Back to the topic of this thread I guess . . ? ?

    Cheers,
    Angel

Folks I hate to tell you this but that photo of me is 5 years old
sheeeaaaat I am much greyer and balder - This "getting" older is not for sissies

Anyway had a good weekend - the painting and sanding takes time.
The job looks good in the pictures and from 2 meters away - and that's good enough for me ;) it's a working boat not a display piece.

The new transom is also screwed on from the inside with stainless screws

    Hi Manie,

I'm sure you've already read Sven's writings... I'm just catching up on Sven's build (I was lagging behind ) and see he isn't concerned about "Ackermann" and doesn't use an "Ackermann setup" on his twin rudders steering system . . .

From -- RUDDERS ARE NOT WHEELS -- November 25, 2012.
    Good luck !
    Angel

    P.S.

More about Sven's rudder setup and steering system in his other November 2012 posts, and of course some more spread over the entire blog . . .

    On the water!

Well finally I got a chance to get to the water and test the new steering and rudder setup. I was at the Vaaldam at 11h00 on Friday and had a wonderful cruise to Bird Island. Saturday back towards Schoemansville. Sunday afternoon back home.

The easterly howled on Sunday morning and the confluence area where the Vaalriver and the Wilgeriver join was wild. The boat steered beautifully and I experimented with many different angles to the wind, all good, no problems.

The rudders work 100% as hoped for and the whole setup with the raised motor is excellent, really nice for beaching. I am happy now and can move on to start with the mast step contraption, and finish the keel.

That's turning into quite a salty little boat, Manie. I'm impressed. Can't wait to see it under sail....

    Hey Manie, nice progress [IMG]

How about some steps on the transom on one of the sides outside of the rudder.
+ 1. You don't have to store the ladder.

+ 2. It's always there, also if you didn't plan to go overboard ! !

    + 3. It's less wobbly.

    - 4. It is less deep unless you make it foldable.

+ 5. Bottom step at the bottom of the boat keeps you limber . . ;)
Sure you know this, but take care as long as the boat isn't balasted . . .

    Good luck !
