The boats from the tv show Vikings

Does anyone have info on the boats used in the show?

Ain't 'glass a grand thing . . . well, at least my assumption based on previous period films and TV shows. A lot cheaper to make a custom 'glass boat, with engine and radio look like a longboat, than it is to build a longboat and retrofit an engine, tanks and communications, possibly on board power for lights and other equipment too.

From the limited information I have, they do get towed around a bit and they do actually sail them, but the accuracy isn't all there, it's just an aesthetic they've chosen. They also get dragged with underwater lines to keep on schedule for sailing shots in specific weather (which they can't schedule). Welcome to the land of make believe . . .

 

The couple of shows I saw were hard to watch, very dark, but you could see the planer marks in the timber details here & there..
& the Shipwright was a bit crazy... & that never happens..

 

It is a great show. Life is dark, sometimes.

Haha, and amazing the detail the practiced eye sees that evades the unschooled.

 

First thing I noticed was the steering board on the port side. Screw up or does History Channel know something I don't?
