    SixMadrid Marine Engineer UPM (Mad)

    Hello mates!

    This is my first post here,I am marine engineer in Madrid and I am glad to be in this community to share our knowledge!

    I am starting to work in a beam trawler to fish shrimp and octopus and I need to increase my basedata!

    All info and files that you could have about this are welcolme! specially files .igs .3ds etc to make parametric transformations!

    Thx! and Greetings!

    Extra info:

    Data about my ship : 250 m^3 oil tank , 200 m^3 cellar, 13 knots
    Society: Bureau Veritas
    IMO and European regulation

    Advanced INFO 7/04/13:
    Ok! I did the following calculus:

    I have to transport 200 m^3 cellar (Shrimps and Octupus) and 250 m^3 marine diesel oil (MDO).And starting data is:

    -According to FAO: Frozen shrimps and Octopus have a density around 0.5 ton/m^3.

    -MDO density 0.839 ton/m^3

    How density of MDO are bigger than fish and the volume of tanks needed are more bigger than cellar, we have the critical load condition when we have 100% fuel capacity in port before going out to fish (0% fish capacity).

    So 100% fuel capacity loaded is 250 m^3 x 0,839 ton/m^3 = 210 ton

    Other loads needed:
    - Supplies = 28 ton
    - Fresh water tank 10 m^3 , density 1 ton/m^3 = 10 ton
    - Screw 125 kg/u x 8 people = 1 ton
    - Cellar Boxes = 0.75 ton
    - Food = 1.5 ton

    TOTAL 251 ton is my DEAD WEIGHT

    Lightship weight has been aproximated by equations checked with a based ship (MEIZOSO) as result:

    LIGHTWEIGHT =331 ton

    So DISPLACEMENT = 251 + 331 = 582 ton

    According to Gravalos studies:

    L= Coef X DISW^(1/3) x (Velocity/(Velocity + 2))^2 = 30 meters
    * Coef is experimental with based ship

    And keeping relation between L/B = 3,82 and B/Hmaindeck = 1,9

    I get: B = 7,85 m and Hmaindeck = 4,13 m

    And block coeffiecient has been aproximated by basedata and Alexandre calculus

    BC=0,69

    So Draft:

    T = DISW / (1,025·L·B·BC) = 3,5 m

    The first thing you need to look at are regulations. There may be maximum and minimum dimensions.

    Oh I forgot to say that is Bureau Veritas society
    I am guessing around 30 meters length

    Any fishery regulations on size and other features?

    There are no limitations as to size. Classification Society probably ask special calculations for ships over 500 m in length. This boat, in addition to applying for B.V. will have to comply with Spanish regulations for fishing vessels larger than 24 m in length. I hope I am not mistaken.
    Anyway, what SixMadrid need, it seems to me, is a similar project to adapt to his through a geometric transformation.
    SixMadrid, if you give me more details, maybe I could help you.

    Well, it is not a real project is like a mock project but IMO regulation: SOLAS, MARPOL , etc.

    Ok later I Will post photos and similar models to clear, thx for help!

    You right! You understand that the idea is the parametric transformation

    Precious "pictures" of Factoria Naval. What software do they use?.
    Sorry but I have nothing like that. I have information from very traditional GRP Mediterranean fishing vessels, trawlers, seiners, etc..

    It is an article, just info about main mesaures, not 3D models...
    Anyway, and can you share me any file to see a model with two decks?

    See if this fits you something. It is a 24 m trawler. Model of hull surfaces, for calculations of naval architecture. Only one deck. An AutoCAD file from where you can export it in the format you need. It was adding a bulbous bow to existing ship. So I have not beautiful renders, because there was no need.
    Regards.

    In your experience, what is your opinion about bulbous in this kind of ships??
    I have seen both options (with oor without bulbous) and I have read studies about how using a bulbous with a more volume in the top of the bulbous, you improve stability in splashing conditions.

    I have implemented 5 or 6 bow bulbous in existing fishing vessels, between 22 and 25 m. I do not believe very much in their beneficial effect but the fact is that the owners are left very happy. They say they save so much fuel that the amortized investment in less than one year.
    All I can say is that they improve the trim and that increase waterline length. These two effects is possible to improve fuel consumption. But I have very clear that what more consumption decreases is how master handles the boat. In short: the bulbs are a hit.

    I lived my life entirely aboard and around trawlers
    . I
    have been researching and developing new beam trawl technology. And gear. If you need any help in that area i might could give you some pointers....otherwise im just here to learn.this thread will be interesting to follow..... i have built a few trawlers but i am always interested in better designs.and technology.
