Boats are not necessarily the lightest to beach. But hullshape (V) may not be condusive to dragging up onto the sand either.

    Pot as bailer

I wasn't there - but the video footage shows quite a few scenes of bailing, as might be expected from a traditional wooden boat in daily use.

And on a point of debate on another thread....

They don't have a 'bad' tack, they simply swing the spar around the mast. Though I am sure bigger boats might find this more logistically challenging...

Can carry quite a few people if needs be....

In this instance carrying filming crew as well. Not sure how many they traditionally fish with, but given you can lower the spar and brail it up fairly quickly, I would image not many are needed at all.

Quite a few boats on the beach. Bigger boat lurking behind trees.

    A nice example...

Many of the spar cradles (better word for this?) are simply painted forked branches or sticks

There's another part of Madagascar where the rigging is similar to Sri Lanka proas, but being tacking outrigers it's used a bit different, and the sail, practically a square, becomes a sprit sail upwind.
Have you any information about these changes on sails and rigging around the island ?
