Looking at the pictures it seems like the ama is designed as a gigantic lifting shape installed at an angle. Don't see foils like we understand them these days but very interesting nonetheless. Thanks!

Interesting. The rigging is a belt-n-suspenders mess.

Noel Fuller designed Sabrina, late 1970s in Auckland used this foil concept. There also was a similar design from the UK around same time.

I remember seeing this boat when it was first built in "multihulls" magazine - I believe.
    Same name at the time.

Those look like Bruce foils. Look for articles by Edmond Bruce in AYRS publications.

I'd be a bit skeptical of the diagonal stability of that boat.

Hi Gary, I thought you had a pic of that boat. Did he not once sail it 120 miles from the Bay of Islands down to Auckland?

Auckland to Bay of Islands, he took his time and stopped at friends' places on the way, wrote an article in the AYRS journals. Here's a shot of the Holtom Foiler from UK and another of Noel's Sabrina.

Formerly in Sydney, where it went slowly around the harbour. It's silly for the ad to say that it is built to similar specifications as Spirit of America - Spirit was a very pretty Crowther Kraken 55 whereas Dalibor was much smaller, of a very different design, slow and not very appealing.

I can recall seeing a mention of the boat doing a speed trial in England, with its usual poor performance. It originally had a rig with jibs that were, I think, hung off the wires leading down to the float bows, but they would have suffered from the usual inclined-rig issues. There was a piece in an AYRS mag that I've seen on the web or maybe in my bookshelf. Googling AYRS and Dalibor may turn up something.

    I found the magazine "article".
    Very little information.
    Started with a Pyramid rig.
    No data at all.
Picture shows the same hull / outriggers.
Clearly intended to be a cruizer. Not a racer.

If you think those look a little odd, how about this one?

I can't hardly make it out. First thing I see is a black haired guy in the back of the port side partially in the water. Once I get that first impression out of my head I see a weird curved foil?
You must have more detail-my head hurts.......

Is that what we are looking for?
The weirdest looking thing that can be found?

Sorry for the poor quality. Here's the newspaper page I got I from.

Maybe you'll be able to see it better, but your head will probably still hurt.:)

I was actually looking for other examples of Bruce foils when I found that. Sorry for the digression.
