Guys, check this out: high speed, light weight high horsepower diesel engines based on the GM/Isuzu Duramax 6.6l V8.

They rebuild these engines in Sweden build to specific needs for military and commercial applications.

If it's the engine that fits,you're lucky to be able to jam one in a 9m!

But give me a QSB 5.9 Cummins with 480hp and almost 1300 nm.
Rated at full power for 13% of the time,and 460 hp the rest of the time.

I doubt the D-Max could put out these numbers for very long,and even their site calls them "light duty"

sure the new QSB is a very good engine! only 300kg more heavy..... that is 4 pax!
anyway it will be available in Europe end 2013 and not sure what best way to order is.

 

when these guys modifided the old GM 6.5 it didnt last ( sure, it was a crap engine to start with) So I hope the 6.6 is the real deal

 

I'm surprised the 480HO is not available in EU till 2013,it's been out here since 2009.

The 480HO only 150 kg heavier..but won't fit your boat!
I just hope you don't expect it to last long at anywhere near 500 hp.

But it works for you and that's great..remember to post videos...I'd like to see GPS and speed!!!

 

the 480 was the old 6.5 you dont want to own one of those at that horepower

 

The 6.5 naturally aspirated is a good engine. The turbo overstresses the engine components.

 

The 480 I'm talking about is the Cummins QSB.

its so pooply designed it just survives as a NA engine
They all have nodular iron cranks...I cant think of any diesel in the world that doesnt have a forged crank

 

Dear WestVanHan, you are mixing things up:
the current QSB 5,9 480HO is available at 612kg
the new QSB 6,7 550HO will arrive in 2013 at aprox 740kg
anyway, just to know MD 500VGT at 460kg is a complete different engine.....

 

Actually I'm not mixed up at all,just referring to the engine on the market which is the 480HO.

The MD 500VGT-they are hoping to have them on the market in July 2012.

For those wanting to know:I emailed them,and it's rated at 500 hp for up to 30 minutes maximum at a time-out of every 10 hours.
Continuous is under 350 hp.

And yes,they are completely different engines which I realize and stated before.

 

They were hoping to have it on the market back in 2010, so I'm not holding my breath. For what we do they seem okay, share the bell housing bolt pattern, similar weight and physical dimensions as a BBC. We'd never run at WOT for a duration of 30 mins as most trips must be limited to 40mins or less...

 

pair of 20 cylinder turbocharged EMD 657C is my favorite propulsion, followed by GE ALCOs as 2nd choice

 

the 30min issue is for safe EGT, the high power is an issue with crank and block which is every time you use it at high power.

 

Yes,nice engines but I don't think Silver's 9 meter boat can handle them!
