Looking for Naval Architect / Design Partner – New Foiling Sport Dinghy

I am looking for a naval architect or experienced boat designer interested in collaborating on the development of a new single person foiling sport dinghy, with a later development into a 2 person version.

The concept is a modern, trailerable, high-performance foiling dinghy inspired by the International Moth, but designed from the outset as a production sport craft with contemporary styling inspired from AC75 boats, a rigid wing sail, and an emphasis on performance, usability and manufacturability for a potential series produciton.

I already have the capability to build a full-scale prototype in-house using professional composite manufacturing methods, including vacuum infusion, carbon prepreg where appropriate, CNC tooling and carbon composite construction.

I am looking for someone with experience in high-performance sailing craft, hydrofoils, composite structures and CAD (Rhino/Orca3D or similar) who would like to help take the project from concept to prototype.

If the project is of interest, I'd be happy to discuss the concept in more detail, the development roadmap, and potential commercial arrangements, including professional design fees, milestone-based payments and, for the right partner, the possibility of an equity stake in the project.

Your project brief sounds like my own project sailing hydrofoiler Volantis, which I worked on for 8 years. Unfortunately I build after hours so my boat still doesn't fly. I hope that I make some improvements in the rigging area very soon and then will be waiting for perfect weather.

Hello! Your boat looks nice, and similar in concept to a Moth. My idea comes closer to a miniature AC75 with lateral foils providing the righting moment.

I got it. My first concept was also on the 3 foils, but similar to trimaran L'Hydroptère. Then I changed to the easier version. Good luck with your project. If you need some help, let me know.

Hi Stefano, you might be thinking of something similar to this, although it seems too complicated for one person to handle alone.
Experts will immediately notice how many things are missing or poorly defined. In my apology, I'll say that I've only tried to make a first draft—a rough one, if you will—just to have something to talk about.

I am replying here to keep the thread running. The basic concept is there, although as you pointed out there are serious limitations in handling the rig alone. My initial idea was to have a rigid wing on a rotating mast, but at the moment I am giving it some thoughts and sailing my IQ-Foil in the main time to get the brain working. One thing that could be improved is the piloting position, as the main disadvantage of Moth style dinghis is the drag created by the sailor. If the sailor is fully enclosed in the aerodynamic cockpit and doesn't have to move, it could eliminate a lot of resistance when approaching 25+ knots!
