I'm pretty new to the boating game, so can anyone please help me understand how the livewell in my boat should work? I flip a switch and can hear a little pump inside the live well which I'm thinking is the aerator! Am I supposed to use a bucket to put water in there or is it supposed to be pumped in? Can anyone help explain this, please?

Hard to know without seeing it mate. Some of them pump sea water in and overflow it out, some use the forward motion of the boat to fill it and then use an aerater to keep it fresh, chances are the tank will have a little tube on top full of holes if it is using aerator.
Just follow the hoses in and out of the pump and all will be revealed.
