Long Tail Boat Designers

I have been reading about the design of long tail boats on this forum and have a couple questions, based on information I have received both here and via other resources -

First, is there a fundamental characteristic of the classic design of these boats that dictates propulsion by a transom-mounted horiztonal engine driving a long prop shaft and large-diameter propeller? This design has been described as dangerous by some, unstable by others, and inefficient by many.

Second, is it fact or fiction that authorities in some parts of Thailand are pushing to ban this type of propulsion setup because of the perceived shortcomings?

 

This system derived from users needs and buying power and the availability of supply . It started from a small engine version from the japanese maker. Evolved into the present type of system.The availability of imported used engine from Japan make this possible . Sort of the development of Jeepney in the Philipines. This type of drive might not be suitable in a more advance country but it suit the Thais and Malaysian needs . The super cavitation concept is fully understood now. Previously it is just a try and error for us the user in seeking better speed and economy . The Thais are more open and known to be able to tolerate things which are worse than this.
