    Noticed this snippet from the Hydros team on FB

    Mischa Heemskerk and Bastiaan Tentij join the team Hydros ahead of the C-Class World Championships. Both will sail alongside (and against) the team comprising Jérémie Lagarrigue and Billy Besson.
    In 2011, the two Dutchmen ranked second in the Formula 18 World Championships and fourth a year ago. Mischa Heemskerk also won the A-Class World Championships 2012.

    The two crews are now training intensively in La Grande-Motte, in the south of France, on board two Nacra F 20 catamarans, one of which has been equipped with experimental foils. The lessons learned during the next few weeks will be transferred to the team’s C-Class catamarans, and the first one will be launched in early March.

    It will be interesting to see if they can make a C Class cat work better on foils than off. Thanks for the info, Corley.

    I agree the problem seems to be the relatively restricted sail area which may not be able to support foiling over a wide range of conditions. That's the idea though being able to make the best mousetrap to suit the rules. It's funny we think 300sqft of sail area is small these days back when the rule was conceived it was seen as quite large. Hydros team must think it's worth the development coin and it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

    One thing to pay attention to is development in the A Class where they've been using curved lifting foils for some time and where now many of the guys are starting to use rudder t foils. I think Martin Fischer still thinks an A Class boat can fly without an active altitude control system. And ,of course, the 72's that fly NOW with a single main foil and one or two rudder foils. Exciting times for design-I didn't think it would all come together so quickly! Whether they actually use foils in the AC or not whats already been done will inspire people for a long time..

    Fly, will not fly?

    The hydrofoils of the Hydros team, which will be used during the next Class C catamaran World Championship, are developed jointly by Hydros and the law firm of naval architects VPLP. "We used studies for the America's Cup to develop different forms of appendices," explains Xavier Guilbaud, a naval architect with VPLP. 'Taking into account the tonnage, we concluded from this study that the most effective model, in terms of performance and ergonomics, is the appendix in the form of s.' 'the goal is to work on four sets of foils in order to choose the most efficient and to assess whether it is interesting or not to fly the Class C', says Jérémie Lagarrigueflight and project manager Hydros.

    Did you blokes notice in the video that Hydroptere ch has air ducts on deck with tubes? running to hull bottoms and exiting the air at the hydroplane steps? Very cool. First time I've seen that solution actually implemented real world to reducing friction and allowing break free from surface with the boat sailing at lower, sub foiling speeds.

    Called hydraplant in the Hydros video a la une - at 1.56; only a short sequence before the foils are lowered.

    As seen on Craig Hughes' Vee Jay dinghy "Nu Hissy" C 1976, I think, and then abandoned.

    Also seen on a Greek slalom board at the '85 production board worlds, Lake Garda. Replicated on boards more recently, also abandoned.
