    Update:
Boat was checked after drying for 3 weeks, 60 lbs. (27kg) of the waterlogging has been evaporated, 40 lbs. (18kg) to go. Hull was moved to a sunnier part of the yard to help with process.
I found another online enthusiast who had extras of the same boat and got one that is not a 'looker' (was poorly painted at one point) but is dry inside and has been fun to sail.
I also got some 2mm Coremat and some heavier fibers (plain weave and woven roving) and hope to make some samples and section them like the one shown previously. I may defer the samples until more boat work and sailing wrap up for the season.

I had to make a hole in a sister boat and decided to take a cross-section. This was from the deck about 6"(150mm) up from the transom in the area that supports the deck-mounted gudgeon.
Once can see the mat on the bottom that was previously bonded to a backer board to take the gudgeon screws and a repair of thick resin and lightweight cloth over the top of the medium blue gelcoat. The boats are same make but 20 years age difference (this sample is the older one) and the basic layups seems quite similar.

There's no coremat in that, just a lot of resin and "champagne air" defects.
