daggerboards rake angle

First, my daggerboard is at 45 degree angle which is strange but from the old design (kraken 33) I thought a more vertical angle was more efficient in terms of lift vs drag, so I made my rudder with less of an angle (about 30 degrees)

I noticed seaweed gets stuck around the rudder but not the dagger. Is his because of the angle or the location? To remove the seaweed I can hard the rudder over in both directions very quickly to shake it loose without needing to retract the rudder.

One time the wooden dowel securing the rudder hinge has broken and the rudder only rotated about 15 degrees. Perhaps a large clump of seaweed?
