A couple of weeks ago I replied to a Craigslist ad from someone who wanted to go sea kayaking in the bay. He'd recently bought a sea 'yak after having a rec boat and so, sure, why not. I was taking the Raptor out for it's first real open water trip and wasn't paying too much attention to him until we caught the wake of the Lummi Island Ferry and he commented on waves being a new experience for him. About that time I looked over and it dawned on me that this dumb #(!* not only wasn't wearing a wetsuit, he didn't even have a PFD on!

I have to say I spent a fair part of the rest of my day looking over my shoulder to see if he was still upright of if I was going to have to go rescue his stupid a$$. Put a little bit of a damper on my day.

People give me a lot of crap for paddling solo, but at least when i go I know I have the stuff to probably stay alive!
