Molds for lofting

    Here's the wierd thing, I build and restore houses for a living, can read prints for homes, but when it comes to looking at prints for a simple 7'3" dingy, duh comes across my mind. I'm trying to create molds for lofting the frame work on this thing for my daughter and the measurements for the height of the mold is from the sheer to the water line, then there is the measurement from the water line to the baseline. now, I'm guessing that the mold fits within the interior of the boat. Just totally confused. Any suggestions or direct me to a website explaining this process. After this, I'm sure there will be plenty more.

    I just completed lofting (drawings), from the table of offsets, for a 14.5 ft. day sailor. Lofting is required only when you do not have drawings or measurements for the wood pieces used to construct the vessel. The instructions that hopefully came with your plans should explain this, if not you can purchase books like "How to build a wooden Boat" on the net. The molds or strongbacks on which the vessel will be built are lifted directly from the lofting(drawings). All measurements, from the table of offsets, are from the baseline or reference line.
    I am not sure if I understand you correctly, but those are the procedures I followed and it is working out fine.
    I also restore old victorian houses when I am not out sailing.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for the insightful information. That helps me a bit, until the next hurdle. FYI, the plans for the dingy came from a plan book that I purchased, this particular model does not have the table of offsets, however, using some yankee ingenuity and brain power, I can figure most things out, just need a starting point. Thanks again.
