You want a cheap and very simple to build sailboat right? Do not dismiss the PDR. It is a stable little bucket that will withstand plenty of abuse and provide loads of fun. It will tolerate two people if the people are not giants. It sails better than its appearance would suggest, you can store it by standing it on its end, It is easily and simply rigged unless you get too fancy with the sail plan. There are hundreds of them out there that are sailing regularly. Plans are free. Depending on a few simple building variations it is unsinkable unless rammed by a submarine. Ok so its ugly. That is part of the charm. Actually some of them are devilishly cute.

You can also scale one up by Length and depth only and wind up with a pretty hefty carrying capacity. A 12 footer with scaled up depth would easily carry two large adults, 450 lbs, and maybe a third smaller one.

Ordinary pdracers can and have carried that amount of weight, but doe so at the price of the transom corners immersing.
