There is always someone wanting a simple propulsion unit.I made a unit similar with the impeller housing made of wood fitted into a ply surf board to take a fishing longline out.A rotosythe lawn mower motor was used and a large impeller.Unit was compact and safe to use. This idea does work quite well, about as good as a 2 HP small outboard motor.

It would be interesting to see how a much bigger impeller and motor would perform. With an improved intake flow.
