I am contemplating purchasing a 50' DeVries-Lentch ketch named Scaldis. She was built in 1935 by the DeVries-Lentch yard in Holland and is currently located at the west coast of the United States. Would anybody know anything about her history, sailing abilities, construction etc? Any information would be welcome. :)

Not from me...Just passing this on

    Mike:

SCALDIS is an historic vessel having been built for one of Hitlers
henchmen. She's a large steel yacht with enough room on deck to hold a
party for 25 persons. We've sailed in company several times but never
aboard her so I can't comment first hand on her sailing qualities. Being a
heavy steel yacht she probably needs a blow to get her going. However we
barely managed to keep up to her in 20 knot winds.

    Good luck. Vlad

    Scaldis

    Hello,
I was searching for information on Scaldis and I found this post ( I realize its from a while ago) but I was wondering if you bought Scaldis or knew anything about what happened to her. She belong to my family for quite awhile. Thank you.

Andreas bought Scaldis which is now moored close to my own boat near Margate just south of Hobart.

I have sent you an email to whatever address you put in when you signed up here. If you don't get it PM me with your email address.

    cheers

    Hello again,
I know my mother got in touch with Andreas back when we conversed on this thread. But my uncle is now wanting to create a webpage in Scaldis's honor and when my mom went to contact Andreas his email bounced. Do you happen to know if he still owns her or where she is? If you have any information please email me back at nikkiriddell@gmail.com Thank you!

Nikki she is still here, in excellent condition and regularly used and still owned by Andreas.

If his email has changed then I don't have a current one, but I'll go and see him on Friday and will ask him to respond to you directly.

Here's a picture I took of Scaldis coming back to her Margate mooring in the evening, Mount Wellington above Hobart in the background.

Thank you, or if Andreas still has my mothers email tell him he can email her directly, otherwise I am happy to play the middle man for now. Thank you so much for the quick reply!
