Weakened 'ice arches' speed loss of Arctic floes
    • Some of the oldest, thickest floes in the Arctic Ocean are in the Lincoln Sea, north of Greenland
    • It's this ice that computer models predict will be the "last to go" during ice-free during summer months sometime this century
    • This ice can be melted in place, or it can be exported via Nares Strait (west of Greenland) or Fram Strait (east of Greenland)
    • Nares Strait has a 40km-wide channel in which an ice "arch" typically forms in the winter that acts as a choke point
    • The average duration of these arches is decreasing by about a week every year, releasing more ice each year
The research is published in the journal Nature Communications

Do you see the edge of the asteroid crater in the lower right of that photo?. There's another one on the way.

Well, did you? It's full of snow and bounded on the left by brown terrain.

The last time I saw an octopus in the wild in these parts was on the sandbar at Caladesi Island circa 1990. It was living in a diving mask I found there. I know they are there. I eat them frequently in restaurants.

Climate change pushed ocean temperatures to record high in 2020, study finds
    • Oceans absorbed more than 90 per cent of the solar energy trapped by greenhouse gases
    • Equivalent to the energy from 10 Hiroshima atomic bombs being released every second of the year
    • Increased heat was also directly affecting coral reefs, which live within a really small temperature range
    • Global air temperatures in 2020 were equal to 2016 — the hottest on record
The study was posted in ADVANCES IN ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE

Humpback whales impacted by climate change
    • The breeding success of humpback whales in the Gulf of St Lawrence has fallen significantly
    • The probability of sighting females with calves was correlated with the abundance of herring
    • It was hoped that baleen whales would alter their migratory patterns, or switch prey species
    • This research shows that their ability to respond may not be enough to prevent reduction of reproductive success
The research was published in Global Change Biology

Climate crisis to supercharge ‘lethal’ lake heatwaves, study says
    • Researchers studied the 11 largest freshwater lakes, together holding more than 50% of Earth's surface freshwater
    • They found that climate change could cause “dramatic increases” in the frequency and intensity of lake heatwaves
    • Average lake temperatures globally could be around 1.7C hotter during heatwaves by the end of the century,
    • Average length of lake heatwaves could increase by a factor of 12, from around eight days to 95 days
    • Most lake heatwaves occur in the summer, but even under a low emissions scenario lakes could experience heatwaves that last through multiple seasons
The research is published in the journal Nature

If you were a scientist you would know that scientists seldom, if ever, "prove" anything. They only supply empirical evidence, with various degrees of confidence.

Here is how the IPCC defines their use of common terms to describe various levels of certainty.

Language Adopted by the IPCC to Describe Confidence About Facts or the Likelihood of an Outcome [2007]

Terminology for Describing Confidence About Facts
Very high confidence: At least 9 out of 10 chance of being correct
High confidence: About 8 out of 10 chance
Medium confidence: About 5 out of 10 chance
Low confidence”: About 2 out of 10 chance
Very low confidence: Less than 1 out of 10 chance

Terminology for Describing Likelihood of an Outcome
Virtually certain: More than 99 chances out of 100
Extremely likely: More than 95 chances out of 100
Very likely: More than 90 chances out of 100
Likely: More than 65 chances out of 100
More likely than not: More than 50 chances out of 100
About as likely as not: Between 33 and 66 chances out of 100
Unlikely: Less than 33 chances out of 100
Very unlikely: Less than 10 chances out of 100
Extremely unlikely: Less than 5 chances out of 100
Exceptionally unlikely: Less than 1 chance out of 100

Doubling tropical cyclone risk to Hawaiʻi possible
    • Model simulations show a doubling of the risk of landfalling tropical cyclones, if CO2 concentrations double
    • This model accounts for atmospheric and oceanic processes with unprecedented resolution, and simulates ocean temperature better than the previous climate models
    • Previous models predicted that vertical wind sheer would tear apart most tropical cyclones that approach the islands

I was on the Gulf yesterday. Slightly bent but still not broken.
Chance of falling for the propaganda exceptionally unlikely: Less than 1 chance out of 100.
