"Every climate researcher thereafter has taken the results of these original models as a given, and we’re even at the stage now where merely testing their validity is regarded as heresy."
    I believe that.
You know, one of the phrases that really grates is "That's settled science." It's not science if it's settled, it's religion.

    We've discussed this before. <roll eyes>

Scientists seldom, if ever, "prove" something. They only collect data which either supports or removes support for hypotheses.

If, over time, the preponderance of data supports a particular hypothesis then a consensus opinion tends to form.

AGW has reached that consensus position among most scientists. But it has not been "proved" and never will be "proved."

Can you provide a reference for that quote? I doubt it is a commonly-held position among scientists. They are are always tweaking old models and coming up with new models.

    Japan Confirms Net-Zero Carbon Goal
    • Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has committed Japan to cutting its net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.
    • Last month Chinese President Xi Jinping made a similar, though less ambitious pledge that targeted carbon neutrality for China by 2060.
    • Suga said Japan would need to maximize the use of renewable energy and move forward with its nuclear restart policy.
    • 100 old and inefficient coal-fired power plants will be closed down by 2030.

You need coal to make steel and aspirin for the headaches you give me. You need steel to make wind generators and electric cars. You need asphalt to build and maintain the roads for electric cars. Plastics for those items are made from petroleum.
    Good luck with all that.

How can one justify crushing Freedom for a greater good when there is no good greater than Freedom?

It certainly is amazing how urgently some people wish to s**t in their own bed. I'd be willing to let them do so, if it weren't for the unhappy fact that I have to share that bed with them. It sure would be nice if we could introduce them to "Depend."

Dr. Nakamura didn't recently "break ranks" with other climate scientists. He's long been known for his challenging and often inflammatory remarks. And he is way wrong that "Every climate researcher thereafter has taken the results of these original models as a given, and we’re even at the stage now where merely testing their validity is regarded as heresy."

Here's a document from 1994 where climate modelers are bemoaning the error-causing shortcuts they are forced to make in creating climate models because they don't have the computational power to create more accurate models. And they look forward to the day when they do have better computers, so they can create better models. Some of the world's most powerful computers are used in climate science, and those scientists are always hoping to get access to yet better programs and computers.

Again, Nakamura is completely wrong about his colleagues.
