Surely just a keelboat and a scuba set up would do it :D

I think you are onto something here. Could use the lines from the ark for the basic hull shape.

It is the humans that need to avoid the bad weather on the surface, a boat can handle it no problem. So what you have is a smallish sub that would stay attached to the parent ship on the water. The unmanned ship on the water would tow the sub in the storm.
The surface ship would pass electricity down to the sub to power it, create o2,water, it would only need food to sustain the humans until it could surface back to the mothership.

The problem with the concept is that the ratio of stability to displacement is key to sailing performance (on the surface), and that ratio is likely to be poor for the craft you describe. But I suggest you read about underwater gliders, which you might find as fascinating as I do.

Or, just as easily, you load up your hobbie cat, beside your submarine in your motor yacht.

And go for the season to wherever you want to sail, or submerge.

    ;)

Wonder if they even realize they are in reverse, snort, snort, hey, look where we were......

Maybe the orders were to return the same way they went......

Submarines, non-nuclear subs that is, sail on the surface and submerged.

So, get a small sub and figure out a collapsible, stowable rig.
