Kevlar Repair

I have a kevlar kayak that looks like it was impacted from the inside causing a 4" crack in the kevlar and spiderwebbing the gelcoat on the outside. I patched from the inside and laid on some gel coat. After sanding it looks like the area where the cracked kevlar was was pushed out just enough to be at the surface of the gel coat so it shows...

I'd like to try and scoop out the area slightly so I can build up some thickness of gel coat. I know sanding is impossible, would something like a dremel with a carving type head work for that? http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Accessories/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=134

What do you mean that sanding is impossible? Kevlar tends to fray and fuzz when you sand it, but you can use #80 and get a decent finish for a repair.

 

You can wet-sand aramides with grit 400. Use a coarse dry grit to remove the resin, then wet sand with 400 to get rid of most of the fuzz.
