I am looking to build an boat to accommodate both my fishing and pleasure needs...simply looking for something to go "tubing" as well as have the capability to do some saltwater fishing and pull up crab and prawn traps. Any suggestions which material is best used for an ocean going vessel of this type?

Depends on the style of boat you desire....... if you want a work boat go metal........... if you want a pretty trad. boat go plank on frame timber. If you want a plastic boat, go plastic. Probably best to search for some designers stock plans find the look of waht you want, then find out what you can build it in. Any of the above materials will get you happily afloat.

    Good luck
