Oh, and if you have a V8 Chevy YOU MUST use a pre-1987 engine with a two-piece rear main seal. A one piece rear main seal WILL NOT work on the OMC stringer drive. No one makes a drive coupler for the stringer that works with the one-piece seal.... I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the Ford or Chrysler engines.

 

ok so the only difference in the short block is the camshaft. That's very easy to take care of.

i really need to confirm that a SBC will matte to the out drive I have

Here is the link on rebuilt mare engines and their cost. sorry for that. Who inspects bpats in your state? If you change out an engine you may be subject to a current inspection. If you do not let your insurance co. know then they will find out later and deny coverage as they should.

 

I have not heard of the 225 before.

I can't believe how little information there is about these boats.

i have been digging online since 4 and haven't found much more than this thread.

I also can't find very much info on OMC before they came out with the cobra

Get a number off the engine or registration. The 225 is something the boat maker put on it maybe referring to HP.

 

I love my stringer drives. I like them even more than my mercruisers. They are easy to winterize, bullet proof if you treat them right, they can turn your boat on a dime, and the water impeller will outlast the mercruisers by a long shot in a torture test. A VERY nice benefit of having a stringer drive is that your stringers are overbuilt. It's amazing when I think of all the old boats I've looked at. I've seen a ton of i/o's and outboard with rotted stringers, but it seems the stringers just don't rot on a stringer drive boat. All of your power goes through the stringers, not the transom.

I know it's not much to go on but maybe you can help ID it.

 

Can you snap a quick photo of the engine and post it? Or can you maybe describe it... Like where the distributor is located?

 

Whoops.... Disregard my reply about the steering cable. I was looking at someone else's photo.

 

The boat is at the marina about 45min from here, The dist is in the rear so I know that the motor is not a ford or big block chrysler. As a matter of fact now that I think about it I'm almost positive it is a SBC.

Im heading down tomorrow to pull the engine and bring it home either way if it is a SBC I will just rebuild it
