Building my first Boat

I'm looking to build a basic skiff for crabbing,I run traps and trotlines,I currently have a 14.5 ft carolina Skiff Utility Skiff and would like a similar boat.Looking for wide beam,16 ft maximum length,side console.Does anyone know where I can get plans ?Also iis there anywhere that will custom make plans or tell you how to alter theirs if I can't find what I'm looking for ? Thanks.

 

there are lots of plans available, and lots of designers willing to design something for you.

what material do you intend to build, wood, fiberglass, aluminum?

 

I'm looking to go with wood,I'm an experienced woodworker,I have never worked with metal or fiberglass

Google maritime museum Maryland...I think Solomons island and they have plans for traditional Garvey type crab skiffs. Crossplank bottoms . Nice boats.

Sometimes refered to a Barge. Perhaps put SHARPTOWN BARGE in your google search or Chincoteague skiff.

Thanks I ended up going with him,I friended him on facebook and after going back and forth he's going to design a 16 ft version of the boat,I'm very excited and looking forward to building my first boat,and glad I found this forum,as I'm sure even as an experienced woodworker I'll have many questions.Appreciate the input !!

 

He's actually designing a 16 ft version of a different boat,it has the square front.I mainly wanted that for the room,usually head out with traps and trotline equipment and the space gets eaten up quick.I found him very easy to deal with,and even easier to communicate with on Facebook.I really appreciate everyones input,and look forward to picking your brains and will prewarn yous,I'm a question asker,I hope I don't end up getting on anyones nerves
