    reminds me of a story...

    Hahahaha...
this reminds me of a story my dad told me.
Apparently as a kid I rode a belt sander across my dad's cabinet shop. Riding it much like this guy on the tiny scooter...
Ran it until the cord came unplugged which, with extension cords hung from the roof on runners to connect equipment too, took a decent distance.
Somehow I find myself wondering how I survived such childhood nonsense into adulthood.

Apparently, there is a poly and VE that is resistant to gasoline and ethanol. The problem is it is a special resin and Frosty and I would not be able to buy it off the shelf.

My friend works for a fuel tank supplier for the big oil companies and says they use a special VE resin that is guaranteed up to 100% ethanol. He is going to give me a liter when he goes back from holidays. If it works for the big oil companies, it should work for me.

There was one tank sealer company that admitted that their product they used was a urethane, single pot too.

Urethane is what Sikaflex is made from!!! Some one mentioned thinning silicone some how and pouring it in.

Re packaging thats all it is.
I used to know a bloke that walked around selling sun tan lotion, he made it himself and had nice bottles made up. He had quite a clientèle but he made it up locally of bits of stuff he could buy.

He had been beaten up a few times by people wanting the recipe. Apparantly it was good stuff.

Coal tar is the residue from petroleum refinement, ie the gunk left at the bottom of the barrel, this is mixed with epoxy to make it cheap. It was found to be a good metal primer and water and chemical resistant.

I expect the tar residue to eventually break down by the alcahol but im not sure.

I have no holes just plagued by rust dust build up in the rear carb (first one from the pump)

Gentlemen I am in the --what is known as deep poo poo.

The coal tar is de-laminating and the fuel is dark, it still runs on it but Im afraid it may settle inside the carbs and re solidify knowing my luck.

The tank is now off and after a great deal of chin rubbing and pain full thinking I shall go out in the morning for some slim cutting discs, open it up clean it and get it welded back. I do have a brazing torch set but not oxy acetylene.

I got to do something all this chin rubbing is getting me nowhere and I would like to ride with the "black sheep" next Fri.

Why is it you can't find a used tank?

A 'new' bike would be cheaper than the gallons of goo you are playing around with.....

I make my own filler with polyester resin and talc, far beter than car bog.

It is 2.50 dollas a kilo and talc is cents.

A new tank is 400 US and not in this country --double that for shipping.

A second hand tank has been searched for as previously explained above.

    its just a tank
you could get custom with it
if you wanted to get silly you could take a pair of fire extinguishers and make a leather tank out of them with nothing more than a few fittings and welding a fill cap

you could have a glass blower make one for you

have one made out of net buoys

molded out of a pair of bresticles

or in the shape of your cat

lots of possibilities if your thinking of cutting the critter apart anyway

Well I cut it in half and cleaned and chisel'd it out. Hey its a good tank ,--knocked out a few bumps I new it had and some that I didnt.

Took 4 hours to scrape it clean.

I have tacked it together and will get it welded tomorrow.

Oh by the way cutting a tank open can result in an explosion and the removal of testicles and the like, fill the tank with foam --ie water and shampoo and a pipe from the car exhaust, keep the car running and cut baby cut,--cut the entire top off it, if im gonna clean lets clean baby.

I ground all the paint off with a 16 grit disc and the inside of the tank.

I got a squeaky clean tank. And a really dirty yard.

OK, nice work. Presumably you don't want new rust so what did you coat you nice clean steel with before welding it all back together?

Hopefully he will electroplate it with zinc before refilling it.
