That's why I want the jet. But maybe it's the motor I want more

Our dump here in town is full off smashed lower units. Plus there are o/b all over town that have suffered the same demise.

The 5.9's are the cheapest, they are free other than the sixty's that come with the boat. There is only one on the boat now the other needs the carbs rebuilt it runs but real rough..

So the sixty's are actually the cheapest. But cheap isn't the issue.

There really isn't a budget that I'm working with. It's just I'm cheap if I can get a used jet for 2?00 I'll do it but if I have to I'll spend the $$ to get it done up to a certain point anyways. At that point I would have to give my head a shake.

I'd not attempt it unless you can find a similar, or preferably identical hull running the jet, and successfully. Otherwise it is a gamble, and I don't really like the odds ! Anyone in town got an outboard jet unit ?

I am not questioning you about it, but what is it about the the hull that points out to you about a no go for a jet drive. What I am thinking is if a single mid sized outboard can push it a jet should be able to as well. But I don't know that's why iam asking. But tell me what you see.

It certainly isn't cheap smashing up lower units, but neither will it end up being low-cost to convert your boat. If the ground is really that bad, I'd be more inclined to fit some skegs that hit the rocks before the outboard leg gets cleaned up.

I can't see the bow shape that well, but any kind of a pronounced forefoot is not helpful, you also have the centreline skeg in the way. Time you put a V8 and hefty jet unit in there, the 5"10" waterline beam with round bilge starts to look inadequate. You might get away with it, but I doubt it. And you will need bigger fuel capacity.

But could it work, even a small remote chance.

I have even been in contact with DBD surface drives. But there is just something with me about children and a whaling meat clever behind the boat. I once thought it was a viable option. And it might still be. The only problem is you have to run a transmission.
